Guardian Life Insurance Company of America is one of the country’s leading mutual insurers, and they are seeking a Summer Intern for their Underwriting department. This 10-week paid internship provides an immersive learning experience where interns will engage in projects, interact with senior leaders, and gain industry knowledge while assessing risk and supporting financial measures.
Responsibilities
Learn about the basic value proposition and customer business need for group benefits
Learn techniques and tools used to evaluate risk in the group business
Participate in training to provide understanding of the organization and Underwriter role
Be a part of a team responsible for assessing risk and making decisions on an appropriate rate level
Identify and communicate trends to support key financial measures
Participate in basic insurance training to gain understanding of the organization and group underwriter role
Be a part of a team responsible for assessing risk and making decisions on appropriate group insurance price levels
Have the opportunity to work and learn from supportive leaders, mentors and team members across the organization who will help coach you as you develop your professional career

Qualification
Required
A rising senior (graduation date of December 2025- June 2026)
Fueled by collaboration, able to listen and make quick decisions and thrive in a goal-oriented environment
A collaborative team player with a can-do attitude
Enjoys reviewing a variety of data points to make financial decisions
A curiosity about Risk Management, Insurance, and Finance
A high level of comfort with math and numbers
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
Must be available for the full 10 weeks of the internship program
