Highmark Health is an integrated health care delivery and financing network, and they are seeking an Undergraduate Accounting Intern to provide practical experience in accounting business processes. The role involves financial reporting, auditing, tax compliance, cost accounting, and payroll management, while also participating in projects and initiatives to develop professional skills.
Responsibilities
- Providing services to the day-to-day operating objectives of the assigned area
- Participating in projects and programs appropriate to the needs of the assigned area
- Participating in the planning and implementation of projects and initiatives
- Conducting research and reporting including recommendations or proposals for action
- Preparing financial statements, such as the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows
- Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial records and reports
- Filing tax returns and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations
- Tracking and analyzing the costs of providing healthcare services
- Managing employee payroll, processing invoices, and collecting payments
- Communicating effectively while interacting directly with colleagues, clientele, and/or other internal or external constituencies in the planning of assignments and the resolution of day-to-day operational problems
- Providing entry-level professional services as appropriate to the day-to-day operating objectives of the area
- Receiving guidance, training, and mentoring from senior personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments
- Undertaking and/or participating in projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the organization
- Participating in the planning and implementation of unit projects and initiatives within area of expertise and ability
- Conducting research and reporting inclusive of recommendations or alternative proposals for action
- Undertaking related studies or enrichment programs as appropriate to the specific objectives of the operating unit
- Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
- Full or part-time enrollment in an accredited college or university baccalaureate program.

- Bachelor of Science in Accounting
- Bachelor of Arts in Accounting
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a concentration in Accounting
- Bachelor of Science in Taxation
- Bachelor of Science in Finance
