Texas A&M University is a coeducational public research university located in College Station, Texas. The TAMIU Department of Biology & Chemistry is seeking a highly motivated Graduate Research Assistant for an NSF grant-funded position, focused on gaining hands-on research experience in biomedical research, particularly studying adaptations in pathogenic yeast. Responsibilities include data collection, analysis, and participation in scientific conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Research and collect data through complex techniques and procedures.
  • Assist with data management and perform basic statistical analyses.
  • Develop assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Perform experiments and data analysis.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Participation in regional-level scientific conferences and publication/s in peer-review journals upon successful completion of assigned project/s.

Qualification

Required

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 3 credit hours per semester in TAMIU's MS program
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 3.0
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP)
  • Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications
  • Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs
  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace
  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule
  • Promptly complete all required training
  • Submit time sheet biweekly
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Subject to funding and/or need

Preferred

  • A GPA above 3.0 from the BS degree
  • Undergraduate research assistant
