The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization, and they are seeking a Scientific Journals Editorial Intern. This role offers college students hands-on experience in scientific journal publishing, focusing on manuscript submission and peer review, as well as supporting the overall management of the Association’s journals.
Responsibilities
Process submitted manuscripts through peer review according to editorial office best practices.
Audit and organize templates and reports across the journal submission sites.
Develop and implement consistent language for instruction pages.
Research manuscripts in submission system and external databases such as PubMed
Compile and review author and reviewer disclosure statements.
Manage reprint permission requests and relevant communications with journal publisher.
Coordinate journal activities in conjunction with spring conferences
Contribute to journals' social media activities as needed.
Formalize and document staff training material.
Assist management with special projects as needed/assigned.
Qualification
Required
Seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in technical writing, biology, or other science-related fields are encouraged to apply.
Strong customer service and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate information accurately and effectively to diverse audiences.
Experience working with databases and electronic reporting tools.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
Minimum availability of 25 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm ET or CT.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
