SpartanNash is an American food distributor and grocery store retailer headquartered in Byron Center, Michigan. They are seeking a Deli Merchandising Intern to provide exposure to the grocery and distribution industry through real-world problem-solving and engagement in educational opportunities. The internship is designed to develop skills while participating in various projects and professional development workshops.
Responsibilities
Assist in recipe management within the recipe management program and project management surrounding the entering of recipes for new programs to be launched in stores
Work with vendors, brokers, or department managers at store level to gather ingredient information
Potential to visit local stores to gather information on items or spend time in our test kitchen creating recipes with our Executive Chef team
To collaborate with cross functional teams to contribute to its objectives
Responsible to complete or participate in at least one strategic project (Capstone Project) during the internship and possibly give a short presentation to the executive team that showcases the project
Participate in learning opportunities that may include tours of our warehouses and retail stores, a community service event (such as SpartanNash Expo, Helping Hands, or Special Olympics)
Attend weekly professional development workshops for developing skills, team building, etc.
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in: Category Management, Food Marketing, Supply Chain, Culinary Arts
Be an active student through the summer
Graduate December 2025 or later
Be willing to attend mandatory, in-person events (2-3 events in Grand Rapids, Michigan including but not limited to orientation and/or intern gatherings)
Microsoft Office proficiency
Intermediate experience in LOOKUP functions and pivot tables within Microsoft Excel
Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
Effective communication skills
Thrives in ambiguous situations
Resilient to overcome obstacles
Driven and demonstrates a bias for action
Highly collaborative

Preferred
GPA of 3.0 or greater
Relevant work experience such as a prior internship or campus experience
