AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older. The Outreach and Communications Intern will support outreach efforts and communications activities, gain hands-on knowledge about issues affecting the 50+ population, and help amplify voices through various media channels.
Responsibilities
Provide social media support, help create compelling content that amplifies external releases, events, and other opportunities, and send tweets to promote content
Support the creation of video content, identify stock photos, conduct video research, coordinate studio and field shoots, develop run of shows
Help draft internal communications content (newsletters, emails)
Engage volunteers in advocacy, community outreach, and communications activities
Deliver strong communications to volunteers to consistently keep them up-to-date on state office activities and opportunities for volunteerism
Develop and staff impactful virtual and in-person events around the state
Coordinate fairs, workshops, events, and video/teleconferences
Assist in maintaining the state office schedule of events
Qualification
Required
Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university and be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctorate student
AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers; this may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Proficient in using various technological tools, including cameras, microphones, lights, tablets, smartphones
Excellent research and writing skills; keen proofreading skills
Knowledgeable in using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok
Interest in social media and integrated communications
Keeps up on current events and news
Must have reliable transportation
Regular and reliable job attendance
Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships
Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions
In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
