Flight Software Design Intern

Jacobs leads the global professional services sector delivering solutions for a more connected, sustainable world. The Flight Software Design Intern will work alongside engineers and scientists on hardware development and software testing, contributing to NASA’s Space Launch System Flight Software reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in completing functional unit tests for the Exploration Upper Stage Green Run Hot-Fire Flight Software release.
  • Collaborate closely with the Flight Software Design Team to analyze, debug, and resolve issues identified in automated test results.
  • Gain hands-on experience in C++ software development, software verification, and debugging in a real-world aerospace software environment.

Qualification

Required

  • Current enrollment in a BS degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related STEM degree is required.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Experience with C++ and Python programming and debugging techniques.
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces such as 1553, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and/or RS-422.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with evaluating test data, correlating results with test findings, and investigating potential anomalies.
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and methodologies.
  • Understanding of Systems and Software Engineering processes, such as Agile development, Object-Oriented Methodologies, and Software Development Processes.
  • Familiarity with software development toolsets.
  • Ability to write and maintain technical documentation, including test plans, procedures, and formal verification reports.
  • Ability to review program and project documents and provide relevant feedback.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to participate in meetings in support of assigned activities.
  • Ability to perform routine assignments following detailed specifications.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred

  • Degree program at an ABET accredited institution preferred.
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite is a plus.
