Western Digital helps customers capture, preserve, access, and transform an ever-increasing diversity of data. The company is seeking a summer intern to work within their Operations Research & Analytics team, focusing on developing solutions for factory and supply chain optimization.
Responsibilities
Collecting information about the optimization problem, understand the related current practices and the desired solution.
Defining and implementing an optimization (MILP, MINLP, CP) model, and implement it in Python language.
Conducting numerical experiments with the model(s) and present the results to the key project stakeholders.
Qualification
Required
Currently seeking a BS or MS degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with a graduation date between December 2025-June 2026.
Familiarity with industrial engineering concepts, e.g., WIP management, production control, manufacturing process and cycle time etc.
Familiarity with declarative modeling tools (e.g., IBM CPLEX, FICO Xpress, Google-OR tools etc.)
Ongoing MS studies in Industrial Engineering, Applied Math, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field.
Good abstraction skills and problem-solving ability.
Hands-on Python programming skills.
Skills in writing basic database queries for SQL platforms.
Good analytics skills in the context of factory optimization, leveraging OR techniques e.g., linear and integer programming, constraint programming, nonlinear optimization.
